Dance Brave Collective

Corey was what some would call a ‘walking time bomb’... I personally saw him as a walking miracle. We met via social media in a moment where two testimonies talked about had to meet. And we did. We met and spent quality time together getting ice cream in the city and talking about the deep understanding we had of each other living a miraculous life but understanding that at any moment things could change dramatically.

Corey was born with a ‘rare and dangerous’ condition where he had tumours in his body, harmless at the size they were, but unpredictable at all times. He had the warmest heart, the greatest compassion for people and the wittiest sense of humour. We laughed a LOT! With each other and at each other. I have a memory of walking around the city with him one day when I accidentally clipped his foot, losing my balance and almost falling face first into the multitudes of people around us. “Good one Corey, tripping over a cripple!” I laughed at him, to which he quickly replied with, “Ouch Sarah! You kicked my tumour!” The reactions of strangers passing by kept us laughing for hours. Corey carried joy so well!

Ever throughout the battle over his life as his tumours became cancerous. He fought hard and strong with the army of people who loved and adored him journeying by his side and at times being the ones to hold his tired arms up. His passing in 2018 was devastating to so many who loved and knew him, though, one thing could be totally agreed on by all... with the time that he had, Corey lived his best most beautiful life to the last moment and has left a ricochet of people knowing what it was to feel seen and loved because they knew him. He would often quote his favourite motto, “What mark do you want to leave on this world...?!” He has left a legacy of a love-driven life well lived.

I was born with a dream in my soul to Dance! Always!
 The journey of how that played out in my life… has been exactly that. A journey!!!
